Rent a bike and cycle the loop; the single best thing to do in Vancouver, and it's free.
- 2.Capilano Suspension Bridge — A thrilling 140-metre suspension bridge swaying 70 metres above a rainforest canyon and river on the North Shore, with a cliffwalk and treetop walkways through the giant firs. Touristy but genuinely exhilarating and beautiful; a free shuttle runs from downtown, and it's magical lit up at Christmas. (The free Lynn Canyon bridge is a cheaper alternative.)
- 4.Grouse Mountain — The North Shore mountain looming over the city — ride the gondola (or hike the brutal 'Grouse Grind' trail) to the top for a sweeping view over Vancouver, the sea and the islands, with grizzly bears, lumberjack shows and ziplines in summer and skiing in winter. A spectacular half-day, and the view is unbeatable on a clear day.
- 7.English Bay & the seawall — The West End's beach and the liveliest stretch of the seawall — a curve of sand where the city gathers for sunset over the water and the anchored ships, with cafés, the 'A-maze-ing Laughter' bronze statues, and the fireworks launched here each summer. Stroll or cycle the seawall, and settle on the beach for the sundown show.
- 14.Lynn Canyon & the North Shore — A gorgeous, free rainforest park on the North Shore — a free suspension bridge over a dramatic gorge, waterfalls, swimming holes and forest trails among giant firs. A cheaper, wilder, less-crowded alternative to Capilano; combine it with the wider North Shore's superb hiking and mountain-biking a short drive from downtown.
