Come once, at night, for the full sensory assault; then escape to somewhere with actual New Yorkers in it.

- 11.MoMA — The Museum of Modern Art — a peerless collection of the 20th century, from Van Gogh's 'Starry Night' and Monet's water lilies to Warhol, Picasso and Pollock, all in a few light-filled floors in Midtown. The best modern-art museum anywhere; go Friday evening when it's free.
